Our business has always been proudly Canadian owned and operated. It was built from the ground up with determination, long hours, and a belief that hard work could create something meaningful.

When we first opened our doors, we had no signage outside, no money in the till, and very little experience running a business. What we did have was youth and optimism.

I was 24 years old, and my brother Tom was just 21. We believed in what we were doing. We thought that if we treated people well and delivered quality work, the business would grow.

In those early days, it felt like we were figuring everything out as we went.

A Family Business From the Very Beginning

Our shop wasn’t just a workplace; it was part of our family life.

When our kids were little, they often came to work with us. It wasn’t unusual to see playpens set up in the shop while we worked on framing projects. Customers would come in and find us juggling both business and parenting at the same time.

Those were busy, chaotic, wonderful years.

We worked many long nights trying to finish customer orders. Often, the lights in the shop stayed on long after everyone else had gone home for the evening. Building a business takes persistence, and there were plenty of moments when it felt like we were running purely on determination.

But little by little, our Ottawa Picture Framing business grew.

Life Takes Different Paths

In 2006, my path shifted. I stepped away from the business to raise my six children and began selling my artwork from home.

During that time, Tom continued running the business with our parents, our most loyal employees. They kept the shop going and served our customers.

It takes resilience to keep a small business alive over the years. Tom carried that responsibility through many changes in the economy and the industry.

Then, after COVID, Tom decided it was time for a new chapter. He returned to school to become a power linesman, beginning a new career path.

Coming Full Circle

Life has a funny way of bringing things back around.

In 2026, with all of my children grown, I found myself drawn back to the business we started all those years ago.

Walking back into the shop felt like stepping into a story that had been paused and was now ready to continue.

The business may look a little different today, but the heart of it remains the same: hard work, creativity, and the belief that small Canadian businesses matter.
